The Post Diploma Degree Completion program is restricted to past ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Dental Hygiene Diploma graduates seeking to advance their education with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene.

The admissions cycle is a year-long process. Applications are submitted in the year prior to the Fall term admission is sought. Late applications will not be accepted.

Requirements

Applicants will be evaluated and placed into one of three programs based on their year of graduation from the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Dental Hygiene Diploma program.

  • Program A - graduates from 1998 - 2001
  • Program B - graduates before 1998 or 2008 onward
  • Program C - graduates from 2002 - 2007
  • Graduation from the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Dental Hygiene Diploma program (1998-2001)
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0 in the UofA Dental Hygiene Diploma program
  • Graduation from the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Dental Hygiene Diploma program (prior to 1998 or 2008 onward)
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0 in the UofA Dental Hygiene Diploma program
  • For those whose program was 2 years in length, they must present an additional 30 units of university-transferable coursework, including the following:
    • 3 units of Psychology
    • 3 units of Sociology or Humanities
    • 6 units of English
    • 3 units of Statistics
  • Graduation from the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Dental Hygiene Diploma program (2002-2007)
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0 in the UofA Dental Hygiene Diploma program

All applicants must provide the following documentation:

  1. Official transcripts of your academic record
    • All current and previous post-secondary records must be provided
  2. Letter(s) of good standing from current or previous licensing bodies, if applicable
  3. Proof of English Language Proficiency/Spoken English Proficiency, if applicable

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ transcripts will be requested for current and former UofA students. If applicable, we may be able to obtain transcripts from participating Apply¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ institutions on your behalf.

Please carefully review the status of your documents in U¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Launchpad. You are responsible for requesting all other required transcripts and documents as indicated in U¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Launchpad.

Program Information

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Dental Hygiene Diploma graduates 1998-2001

Students in Program A will need to complete 18 units of coursework:

  • DHYG 417 (3 units)
  • DHYG 418 (3 units)
  • DHYG 431 (3 units)
  • DHYG 440 (3 units)
  • Two 300- or 400-level options (6 units, with approval of the Program Director)
    • A maximum of 3 units from PAC courses is permitted.

Note: Advanced credit for two options at the 300- or 400-level may be provided for ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ 1998 graduates who successfully completed DHYG 214 in Spring/Summer 1997.

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Dental Hygiene Diploma graduates prior to 1998 or 2008 onward

Students in Program B will need to complete 30 units of coursework:

  • DHYG 417 (3 units)
  • DHYG 418 (3 units)
  • DHYG 422 (3 units)
  • DHYG 431 (3 units)
  • DHYG 440 (3 units)
  • DHYG 468 (3 units) or an equivalent health research course
  • Four options (12 units)
    • Two options must be at the 300- or 400-level (6 units, with approval of the Program Director)
    • A maximum of 3 units from PAC courses is permitted.

Note: Advanced credits for two options (one option at the 300- or 400-level and one option at the 200 level) will be provided for ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ 1997 graduates who successfully completed DHYG 213 in Spring/Summer 1996.

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Dental Hygiene Diploma graduates 2002-2007

Students in Program C will need to complete 30 units of coursework:

  • DHYG 417 (3 units)
  • DHYG 418 (3 units)
  • DHYG 422 (3 units)
  • DHYG 431 (3 units)
  • DHYG 440 (3 units)
  • DHYG 468 (3 units) or an equivalent health research course
  • SOC 320 (3 units) or an equivalent statistics course
  • Three options (9 units)
    • Two options must be at the 300- or 400-level (6 units, with approval of the Program Director)
    • A maximum of 3 units from PAC courses is permitted.

Planning to take courses outside the UofA?

  • Take equivalent/option courses at other institutions before applying
  • Only apply if you plan to register in ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ courses for the Fall term you are applying to
  • If you are admitted but do not register for courses in that term, you will be withdrawn and must reapply

Students are expected to complete at least half of the required units through courses offered by the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
