The Faculty of Law offers degree programs at the undergraduate, master and doctorate levels and also a pathway that assists foreign-trained lawyers with completing the courses required to practise law in Canada.

Faculty of Law Programs

Juris Doctor

A three-year degree program with a reputation of providing students with a strong foundation in the law plus an array of opportunities for them to specialize in particular areas of interest. A four-year Juris Doctor/Masters of Business dual-degree program is also offered with the Faculty of Business.

Master of Laws

A one-year research degree program which enables law students, lawyers and academics from related disciplines to hone legal expertise and conduct advanced research.

Doctor of Philosophy

A three-year research degree program that attracts aspiring legal academics who have already completed a postgraduate degree in law.

Internationally Trained Lawyer Pathway

A pathway for foreign-trained lawyers who want to practise law in Canada. The program allows students to complete courses required by the National Committee on Accreditation.

Law 101

Law 101 is an online course taught by U of A law professors that provides an introduction to the important principles, people and processes of the Canadian law and legal system — a perfect sampler course that gives you a taste of what the Faculty of Law is all about.

LSAT Summer Prep Classes

Prospective ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ law students can apply for one of the two LSAT Summer Prep Courses taught by a current ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Faculty of Law student. These 12-week virtual courses provide free support to students who plan to write the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) to apply to the Faculty of Law in the next two years.
