SRP 2018

"Before I joined the SRP, I had a general idea that I wanted to work with people, possibly in healthcare, while also being interested in engineering and physics. My time at the Laboratory of Intelligent Manufacturing, Design, and Automation at the ֱ opened my eyes to the possibilities within mechanical engineering. It was my first exposure to computer-aided design, SolidWorks, and additive manufacturing technologies like 3D printing. This experience gave me the confidence to choose mechanical engineering as my major, with focuses in bioengineering and manufacturing.

Throughout my undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto, I had the opportunity to explore biomedical engineering in depth. At first, I trained as a paramedic to gain hands-on skills. During school, I developed an inductive cranial bone saw, and through my internship, worked on the design of several medical devices for lung transplant and remediation. Now, I’m involved in mechanical design for various minimally-invasive surgical devices.

The WISEST program has been a significant part of my journey. Its unique approach and supportive environment helped me figure out exactly what type of work I have talent for, as well as how to leverage these skills to help the most people. I encourage anyone interested in STEM to look into, apply for, or support this wonderful program."
