- focuses on the unequal distribution of resources, the social structural roots of inequality, the mechanisms through which these patterns arise, and the consequences for individuals and for societies
Criminology
- focuses on the causes, nature, consequences, and control of crime as well as the administration of criminal justice
Gender and Sexuality
- focuses on understanding gender as a process and structure, including the social construction of gender, the gendered aspects of social life the intersectional links between gender, sexuality, and inequality
Health and Wellbeing
- focuses on the social dimensions of health and wellbeing, including the social determinants of health, the lived experience of illness and death, and responses of the health care system
Law and Society
- focuses on the social significance and social organization of legal institutions, and the relationship between law, society, and social behaviour
Population and Life Course
- focuses on causes and consequences of population dynamics such as fertility, health, migration, mortality and understanding the interplay between human lives and changing social structures
