About Us
The Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation (KSR) at the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ continues to be recognized for excellence in teaching and research, currently ranked top 3 in Canada and among the top 10 globally for sports-related subjects in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
With more than 60 years of inspiring movement, the Faculty leads research and teaching through a diverse and multidisciplinary lens. The range of topics explored spans sport, exercise, health, recreation, tourism, and adapted physical activity. Faculty researchers and instructors explore these areas from biological, neurological, psychological, and sociocultural perspectives. From investigating how physical activity affects cells, neurons, and physiological systems, to examining coaching practices, leisure behaviour, and the sociopolitical forces shaping sport and recreation, our research and teaching drives innovation and supports healthier, more active and inclusive communities in ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and beyond.
The Faculty is home to more than 40 faculty members and academic teaching staff, including two Canada Research Chairs, as well as a dedicated team of more than 15 support staff. Over 1400 undergraduate students are pursuing one of the Faculty’s four bachelor’s degrees and KSR faculty members supervise more than 120 graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and research associates.
Diverse Opportunities for Students
KSR students benefit from hands-on learning opportunities that connect classroom theory to real-world practice—whether through labs, activity-based courses, community service learning, or in-field placements. From research labs studying exercise and chronic disease to teaching practicums and international exchanges, students engage in meaningful experiences that build practical skills and deliver community impact. Graduate students further their expertise through specialized research, while working professionals can advance their careers through flexible, online graduate certificates.
