Dr. Gavin Oudit

Professor, Division of Cardiology

The honours Dr. Gavin Oudit in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Heart & Stroke and his commitment to heart and brain health in Canada. 

Dr. Oudit has dedicated his career to the advancement of cardiovascular medicine and knowledge thereof in provincial, national and international settings through his research, education and clinical practice. He is also a Tier 2  in Heart Failure and serves as Director of the Heart Function Clinic and Mazankowski ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Heart Institute.

Dr. Oudit has made novel discoveries and several have translated into clinical trials including recombinant human ACE2 for lung disease and key role of ACE2 in COVID-19. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his research team examined circulating angiotensin peptide levels in the blood of over 100 individuals who were experiencing heart failure due to a heart attack or stroke. Following this, he led a collaborative study between U of A and teams from Cambridge, Boston, and Berlin to use analytical techniques to sequence the ribonucleic acids in nine types of single cells from six regions of the heart. 

Dr. Oudit is involved with national and international societies and organizations for the promotion of cardiac research and health including in vulnerable patient groups. His work has been also recognized with an appointment to become a Fellow of the .
