Professor Sheena Wilson of Faculté Saint-Jean elected to the Royal Society of Canada
4 September 2025

Faculté Saint-Jean's Professor Sheena Wilson, a specialist in energy-related humanities, has been elected to the 2025 cohort of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC). The RSC is Canada's national academy for the arts, humanities and sciences, and election to its ranks represents a major professional recognition.
A pioneering researcher, Professor Wilson co-founded the Petrocultures research group and has been instrumental in establishing applied humanities in energy as a discipline. Her intersectional and interdisciplinary research on climate justice exposes how the extractivist worldview that produces environmental devastation also enables the exploitation of peoples based on gender, class and race, as well as their ontologies and epistemologies. Her extensive collaborations with the community enrich her research, policy advice and public intellectual engagement in support of epistemic justice and planetary health.
“The Royal Society of Canada is delighted to welcome into its ranks a talented group of inspiring researchers, artists, and creators whose peers have recognized their exceptional contributions to the world of science and culture, as well as to the well-being of Canadians. Their research will continue to influence public policy for years to come, while improving the well-being of our society,” said Alain-G. Gagnon, FRSC, President of the RSC.
"Professor Wilson's prestigious election to the Royal Society of Canada highlights the level of excellence in research conducted at the Faculty of Saint-Jean," said Jason Carey, Dean of Faculté Saint-Jean. "Her success brings international recognition to our institution and inspires our entire community. We offer her our sincere congratulations on this outstanding achievement."
Professor Wilson will be officially inducted at a ceremony to be held in Montreal on Friday, 14 November 2025, as part of the RSC's Celebration of Excellence and Commitment. Professor Wilson is also one of the new members of the RSC's College of New Scholars, Artists and Creators. This College is composed of mid-career leaders who are poised to take on important challenges and seize new opportunities in the future.
The entire community at Faculté Saint-Jean and the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ warmly congratulates Professor Wilson on this exceptional recognition of her invaluable contribution to research and society.
