Get to know...Stacy MacKinnon
This month, we're excited to highlight Stacy MacKinnon, Executive Assistant to the Associate Dean of Master’s Programs and Executive Education. We learn about her favourite comfort food, top travel destination and her best advice for new colleagues!
What’s a fun fact about you that most people wouldn’t know?
I lived in the Dominican Republic for four years. I met my husband (who is Dominican) while volunteering there, and when we got married, I moved to join him. We both have a passion for animals, so we connected with a local animal rescue and ended up fostering 15 dogs during my time there.
What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend or day off?
I’m definitely a homebody, so I really enjoy relaxing at home and taking things slow. But when I do head out, my favorite way to spend the day is with family and friends. It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate, for me, it’s all about sharing time with the people who matter most.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Antarctica! It’s a dream destination for me. While the thought of sailing through Drake Passage is a little nerve-wracking, I think the experience would be absolutely worth it.
What’s a book, movie, or TV show you're currently enjoying?
I’m currently reading The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker and rewatching Criminal Minds. Noticing a theme? I find the psychology behind human behavior fascinating.
Do you have a favorite meal or go-to comfort food?
Does coffee count? No? Then pasta, it’s my go-to comfort food and always a safe choice.
What inspires or motivates you the most in your day-to-day life?
My kids. They inspire me to be a better person every single day. I’m motivated by the privilege of helping shape who they become. I want them to grow up to be kind, thoughtful, and well-rounded people, so I try to model those qualities in my own life. They keep me grounded and give everything I do greater purpose.
Can you share a bit about your role and what brought you to the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ School of Business?
I’m the Executive Assistant to the Associate Dean of Master’s Programs and Executive Education. I feel fulfilled when I’ve helped make someone’s job or day a little easier. I was ready for a change, and I feel so lucky to have landed in the MBA office at the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ School of Business.
What’s been your most memorable moment at the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ School of Business so far?
The warm welcome I received from the MBA team. From day one, they made me feel like part of the family, and that first impression has really stayed with me.
What’s one piece of advice you’d share with a new colleague joining the school?
This is one of the kindest and most welcoming environments I’ve ever worked in. Don’t hesitate to reach out and connect with those around you. It’s normal to feel a bit nervous in a new role, but you’ll find incredible support here.
