Lowering the Flag: Greg Kawchuk
11 July 2025
The ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ banner is flying at half-mast from July 11-14, 2025 in remembrance of Dr. Greg Kawchuk, a professor in the Department of Physical Therapy in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine.
After an exceptional and full life, Greg (61) passed away surrounded by his loving family: his wife of 34 years, Janet; his sons, Jonathan and Michael; their partners, Jill and Taylor; and his loyal dog, Milo. Greg will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Don and Arlene; his brothers, Brent (Julie) and Jordan (Stephanie); and his brother-in-law, Andrew. His nephews, Ben and Rory; nieces, Lily and Willa; former sister-in-law Abbie; and friends who are family, Medi, Stefan (Danica), and Tatiana will also remember him affectionately. Greg's curiosity and contagious energy created a life rich in family, friendships, trusted colleagues, and students. A lifelong learner and educator, Greg was a full professor at the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and an adjunct professor at the Southern University of Denmark and founding member of the Chiropractic Academy for Research Leadership (CARL). His personal passions included music, cycling, volleyball, photography, coaching, and creating the perfect pizza. Greg was kind, loving, and generous and adored by all who knew him. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff who cared for Greg at the Royal Alexandra and U of A hospitals and give special thanks to the staff of the Cross Cancer Institute (especially, Unit 30).
