Convocation Spotlight: Jiabi Wen, PhD in health services and policy research

With the support of her peers and a number of awards and scholarships, Jiabi Wen is graduating from the School of Public Health with a doctorate in health services and policy research. She plans to make a career out of research in health economics and patient-reported outcome measures, supporting decision-making in improving population health.
What drew you to this area of study?
I want to contribute to the effective allocation of medical resources. I knew this program would help me get into the field of health economics.
What are you most proud of from your time in the program?
I successfully defended and received a lot of praise for my thesis.
How did you stay motivated during your studies?
I tried to reach out to peers who might be more experienced in the topic area I am struggling with.
What advice would you give to a student considering a PhD in public health?
Embrace the peers and the community. Allow yourself to experience as much as you can in order to find the thing you really love.
