Convocation Spotlight: Cassandra Luong

Cassandra Luong
For Cassandra Luong, supporting her fellow students and taking advantage of new opportunities were the most enjoyable part of her doctor of pharmacy program.
As convocation approaches, Luong tells us about her successes, her support system and the national competitions she took part in.
What are you most proud of from your time in the program?
I think one of my proudest accomplishments was chairing the Space and Wellness Committee when I was VP Student Services. Being able to see that I am making a positive impact on pharmacy students from the various events planned was what made that role so rewarding, and I couldn't have done it without my committee! Also winning the Mint Cup MVP Award, of course!
How did you stay motivated when things got tough?
I would not be where I am nor would I have accomplished as much as I did if I didn't have my mom and my brother supporting me. My friends have continually supported me too! I think it's vital to have a good support system through the highs and lows of pharmacy school and I'm thankful for the one I have.
Did you have any unique experiences to learn from during your program?
A really cool experience was competing nationally in the Patient Interaction and Compounding Competition at the in Toronto and Halifax! I learned to just try my best and take the leap, even if it makes me nervous, and that good opportunities come when you put yourself out there. I also learned this from competing in the pharmacy talent show, RxFactor, with juggling as my performance.
What advice would you give to a student thinking of entering this program?
JUST DO IT! Get involved with the extracurriculars that the pharmacy program has to offer. Join the intramurals sports team, run for a position on APSA, attend social events and have fun! I enjoyed pharmacy school because of the connections I made with people throughout my time. Going through pharmacy school is a team sport; make those connections!
