FEGRS 2025: A Celebration of Graduate Research and Collaboration

Faculty members are invited to attend the Faculty of Engineering’s Graduate Research Symposium (FEGRS) for 2025, taking place August 19–21 on the eighth floor of the Donadeo Innovation Centre for Engineering. This student-led event brings together graduate researchers from across disciplines to share their work, develop presentation skills and build meaningful connections with peers, faculty and industry.

The symposium is organized by graduate students for their peers, reflecting their strong commitment and energy. Every part of the program — from invited speakers to presentations, networking and the industry mixer — is designed to highlight the outstanding quality and potential of graduate student research.

For many participants, FEGRS provides their first opportunity to present in a professional, conference-style environment. It offers students a space to articulate their work to a broad audience, refine their communication abilities and gain confidence for future academic and professional engagements.

Just as importantly, FEGRS fosters connections through discussions following presentations or informal exchanges at networking sessions — connections that can lead to future collaborations and new research directions. Meals will also be provided, offering extra chances to connect, share ideas, and build relationships.

This year’s symposium will feature guest speakers (Department of Computing Science), co-recipient of the 2024 AM Turing Award and leader in artificial intelligence, reinforcement learning and robotics,  (Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering), a leading expert in thermodynamics, surface science and cryobiology, and (Department of Civil Engineering, University of British Columbia), founder of the .

We look forward to welcoming you to FEGRS 2025. By attending, you will support the tremendous work of the graduate student community, enrich discussions and gain insight into the diverse research happening across the faculty.
