Ron Jenkins has been named the 2025 Lee Playwright in Residence

Join the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Drama Department in welcoming Ron Jenkins as the Lee Playwright in Residence for 2025.
The selection committee was again tasked with a difficult decision because of the quality of the applications this year. There were many reasons why Ron was selected but the committee felt that he best personified the “commitment to Canadian playwriting” because of his many years nurturing emerging and professional playwrights throughout his extensive career.
About Ron
Ron Jenkins is a Sydney, Nova Scotia based freelance director and playwright who lived and worked in Edmonton for 25 years, his second home. He was the Artistic Director of , Artistic Director of , and Associate Artist with .
Ron has worked across the country as a Director, Actor and Playwright. His plays have been produced nationally and internationally, and his play Extinction Song won the 2009 Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award for Best New Play. In 2023 he was member of The Stratford Playwrights Retreat. He is currently finishing rewrites on his play Voice of Fire and working on a new play Strike The Tent.

The Lee Playwright in Residence and the Lee Playwriting Prize were created to nurture and celebrate Canadian playwriting. The Department of Drama will announce the 2025 Lee Playwriting Prize at the Drama department Fringe Festival social event on Monday, August 18, 2025 (happening from 5-7 p.m. in the Edmonton Fringe North Beer Tent).
