Student Success and Experience: The Office of the Dean of Students is changing its name

21 July 2025

The Office of the Dean of Students is changing its name to Student Success and Experience (SSE) as of August 1, 2025.

We chose this new name because it better reflects what we are all about—supporting students throughout their academic and personal journey here at the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. It puts the focus on the student experience.

This wasn't a decision we made lightly. We engaged with a diverse range of voices across campus, including students, instructors, staff and university leaders. Our community had input into finding a name that represents what we do.

Many universities across Canada are moving in this direction, too—using names that clearly describe what they do rather than traditional titles. This makes it easier for students to understand exactly what services are available to them.

This change is part of something bigger happening at the university. As our student population grows, we are enhancing our services and infrastructure to support them. We have also created a new leadership structure with an Associate Vice-President, Student Experience working alongside the Vice-Provost and Dean of Students to make sure we are delivering the best possible experience for students.

Even though our name has changed, you can still count on the same commitment from Student Success and Experience. The familiar faces and services you rely on are still here for you. We are just operating under a name that better reflects our mission.

Thank you for your collaboration as we move forward with this exciting change together.
