Jonas Szelewicki, ‘19 BSc, ‘23 MD

Medicine Representative

Jonas has completed the “trifecta” of his training at the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥, from Bachelor of Science (2019), to Doctor of Medicine (2023), to his current medical residency in Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology.

Throughout his training he has been a long-standing advocate of his now alma mater, such as during his six years as U¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Ambassador. In this position Jonas led 60+ campus/residence tours for students from around the globe (and so has campus fun facts galore)!

Jonas’s advocacy work is personally meaningful. As fYrefly in Schools Panelist of U of A Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services from 2016-20, he shared personal stories as a member of 2SLGBTQ+ community to Edmonton school students and future teachers in ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Faculty of Education classes. Having a twin brother with disabilities, he is also an active volunteer with Special Olympics, helping coach numerous sport programs since 2016.

Jonas remains connected to U of A through his faculty, currently serving as facilitator for case-based learning for medical students from China of the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Institute, an international collaboration between medical schools in Edmonton and Wenzhou, China.

Jonas enjoys swimming (waterslides are a bonus!), plant-based living, and public transit adventures.
